Description
Alaskan coastal brown bears forage on rich sedge grasses in the spring, after emerging from winter hibernation. The Chinitna Bay, in Lake Clark National Park on Alaska's Katmai Peninsula, draws large numbers of early-season bears in search of protein-rich sedge, and the clams that lie just beneath the surface in the tidal mudflats, before the salmon begin their run up the rivers to spawn.
