Description
"Ha! ch-ch-cha!"
Roseate Spoonbill (Platalea ajaja) at the Riparian Preserve in Gilbert, AZ. A relative rarity in Arizona, apparently blown out of its more common territory by storm patterns affecting the Gulf coast, it seems to have taken up a comfortable residence in the ponds of the RIparian Preserve in the middle of the Desert Southwest. Spoonbills feed in muddy, shallow waters, walking forward slowly while they swing their heads from side to side, sifting the muck with their wide flat bills slightly open, detecting prey by feel..
